| | | Mr. Tantan said the gendarmerie had been preparing for the prison operations for nearly one year. The gendarmerie carried out mock operations into prisons, in trial prisons. So the teams that were used in the operations had received training for many months and were well trained for what was expected. It was known that some prisons had weapons hidden in them, therefore the gendarmerie teams were very careful and tactful when in these parts of the prisons. Mr. Tantan, said he could not foresee when the current operations would end in prisons, but reiterated the rule of law in prisons would be the end result.
Mr. Tantan added that in future in order for these kinds of lawless events in prisons not to occur again, the law must at all times be upheld by all. When implementing laws, no concessions or leniency should be given to anyone. Laws are made for the system not for individuals added Mr. Tantan.
After the completion of the current operations into prisons there will be a widespread search of prisons and investigations held into why the prisons had become so lax in security said Mr. Tantan.
